Germany's Christian Democrats see it as a last-resort solution, while others consider it a welcome opportunity for entering government: a coalition with the Greens. The latter are currently junior partners in Christian Democrat-led regional governments in Hamburg and the Saarland.The two parties also cooperate at municipal level in North Rhine-Westphalia - and the upcoming state elections there have prompted some to wonder whether such a partnership could one day even translate into a governing coalition for the whole of Germany.
